The Alaska Zoo is committed to conserving Arctic, sub-Arctic, and similar climate species through education, research, and community engagement. With the support of the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, the zoo will renovate its Discovery Center with new flooring, lighting and windows, fresh paint, a new deck and more. These improvements will expand the center’s functionality and support the continued growth of the zoo’s educational programs and community outreach.

Ester Volunteer Fire Department

Ester Volunteer Fire Department has provided emergency fire, medical and rescue response to the Ester Fire Service Area and the Fairbanks North Star Borough for over 50 years. The funding received from the Lowe's Hometown grant will allow EVFD to replace essential exterior storage space, upgrade flooring in the training room and refresh the paint and furnishings in the kitchen. These renovations will improve the functionality and comfort of EVFD's Station 51, promoting the well-being and efficacy of its first responders.

Wasilla Police Dispatch Center

The Wasilla Police Dispatch Center serves a large and diverse area in the Alaska valley. Through Lowe's Hometowns, an update to their dispatch center break room will include new cabinets, carpeting, appliances and furniture. The renovation will add a bright spot for a hard-working department dedicated to serving the community.

Anchorage Police Department Dispatch

The Lowe’s Hometowns grant will be used to repair the damage that was incurred to the Anchorage 24-hour Police Department and Dispatch breakroom during a 2018 earthquake with a 7.1 magnitude. For the Anchorage Dispatchers who experienced this trauma themselves, but also went into action, the Dispatch Center will become a 24/7 haven as well as a central location for potlucks, holidays, birthdays and more.

Covenant House Alaska

The Covenant House works to provide compassionate, sustainable services and shelter to homeless or at-risk youth in Alaska. Repairs and upgrades are needed in all residents' rooms and common hallways. Their project also includes replacing mattresses, repairing and repainting two stairwells, door frames, closets and bathrooms. All the carpet and old flooring in the basement lounge will be replaced with durable hardwood floors.
