Cherry Street Mission Ministries provides essential support to individuals experiencing homelessness in Toledo, Ohio. With the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, the Sparrows Nest Women’s Shelter will receive new commercial-grade flooring and fresh paint in key areas, improving safety and comfort for residents. These renovations will create a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for the 600+ women who rely on the shelter each year.
StarkFresh's Food Justice Campus houses a neighborhood-sized grocery store in an area of town that previously had no affordable food access. Through Lowe's Hometowns, the organization will make updates and repairs to the exterior, including replacing roof shingles, repairing and painting brick walls, repairing storm-damaged windows, and improving fencing, will make this campus an even more vibrant beacon of community.
The Workshops Inc. believes those with disabilities are no different from anyone else and provides support to adults with developmental disabilities throughout Northeast Ohio. Through Lowe's Hometowns, physical improvements to the facility's lunchroom, kitchen, meeting room and entry will improve accessibility and safety.
The Domestic Violence Project seeks to transform the Founding Mother's room in Canton, a place where survivors can "shop" for gently used donations that are donated by the community, and then available in a store-like atmosphere where survivors feel empowered to start making their own decisions. In addition, an office in Canton will be converted into a space where community programs can be conducted in a safe, comfortable environment, including new flooring, paint, and updated furniture.
The Animal Charity of Ohio seeks improvements to better serve its furry clientele. This project includes installing a deep sanitary sink, washer and dryer, shelving and storage units, including free-moving kennels.
A lodge that offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when their best hope for treatment requires traveling to the area seeks assistance in expanding and renovating its space, so that it can continue to offer its valuable services, providing a home away from home to the patients and families when they need it the most.
A private nonprofit that provides educational, recreational, and social service opportunities to neighborhood residents seeks assistance in developing a village of tiny, energy-efficient homes to house those in need, with a specific focus on establishing a tool lending library stocked with tools and resources for members of the neighborhood to use to maintain or improve their homes, gardens or yards. Area Lowe’s stores helped kick start the program by building the first two homes in the village.
Former NFL player and 3x Super Bowl champ Matt Light will roll-up his sleeves and work alongside young high school students, training them to build a covered bridge. This instructional and hands-on learning experience will introduce young people to the age-old craft of timber frame construction and teach them to work collaboratively while creating a permanent structure that betters the community.
